HappyWakeUp works as a smart alarm clock. HappyWakeUp is based on medical research of the human sleep and its structure. It smartly monitors your sleep using the microphone of the mobile phone. It gives you an alarm signal in the morning- but only if you are awake or almost awake just before the final
wakeup time. At this kind of moment your body and brain is ready to wake up naturally and without any extra stress.
HappyWakeUp is a smart alarm clock adapted into your smart mobile phone.
It may also be called as a ArousalClock.
The smart alarm clock wakes you up when you in the morning actually are already awake or almost awake. This phase of your sleep is called an arousal. HappyWakeUp
does not try to wake you up when you are in deep and calm sleep of if
you are in REM sleep (sleep phase with dreaming). These are the moments
when it is most difficult to wake up.
HappyWakeUp detects the natural cycles of your sleep and the optimal moments for your brain and body to wake up.
This gives you

HappyWakeUp detects the optimal moment to wake up by monitoring the quality of your sleep using the microphone of the mobile phone.
Actually it listens to your movements during the night time. Therefore
the phone has to be near to you, preferably on your bed. Detection of
the arousals is based on statiostocal analysis of the microphone signals.
Previously, the smart alarm clocks have been separate, expensive
devices like movement detectors (called actigraphs). These devices have
to be attached to you like a watch or a wrist band. This may disturb
you if your sleep is sensitive. This kind of devices have to been
carried with you when travelling and they may have batteries difficult
to change and obtain. HappyWakeUp is always with you in your personal mobile phone.
HappyWakeUp is extremely easy to be used: just set the mobile phone's alarm normally and start HappyWakeUp application! HappyWakeUp is based on the medical knowledge and research of human sleep structure and sleep disorders. HappyWakeUp ArousalClock analyses the quality and the naturally alternating cycles of your sleep produced by brain activity for the optimal wake up moment.
During the last morning hours your sleep is more fragmented and there
are short periods of wakefulnes called arousals, shown in the hypnogram
below. These are so short that typically you do not remember those in the morning. These natural arousals are the optimal moments for your brain and body to wake up! HappyWakeUp is developed to detect those moments.
If you have to wake up during the deep sleep (Stages 2, 3 and 4) or during REM sleep you feel it difficult because your brain is not ready to wake up. In addition to the unpleasant experience it also is an extra stress to your body, your heart and your nervous system!
HappyWakeUp is extremely easy to be used: IN THE EVENING:
1. Set the normal mobile phone alarm time. This is your normal last possible time to wake up to be used routinely: Clock - Alarm.
2. Start HappyWakeUp ArousalClock application.
Key-lock is activated.
Current TIME, HappyWakeUp ALARM TIME and ALARM WINDOW of 20 minutes are displayed on the screen.
3.Set the mobile phone during night time:
beneath the pillow or beneath bed linen near your pillow
on the bed table keys and microphone upwards. The distance should be less than 50 cm, 20" from the pillow.

This is especially good location if there are any external voices or
snoring present!
DURING THE NIGHT TIME: HappyWakeUp is monitoring your sleep with the microphone. Therefore it has to be near to you!
It makes statistical analysis of the quality of your sleep.
The last 20 minutes before the ultimate alarm time is called as ALARM WINDOW.
If you are awake or almost awake (which is called arousal) during the last 20 minutes HappyWakeUp gives you the alarm signal.
Because you are actually awake a soft signal is enough to wake you up. You experience an easy wake up and active morning hours.
If you are in deep and calm sleep during the ALARM WINDOW time HappyWakeUp lets you sleep the maximum time until the mobile phone gives the alarm signals.
IN THE MORNING:
4. Stop HappyWakeUp.
5. Set the regular mobile phone alarm OFF.
Example:
Your ultimate wake up time (your normal time in the alarm clock) is at 7:00 am.
HappyWakeUp gives you an alarm signal between 6:40 and 6:59 am if you are awake or almost awake.
If you are in deep calm sleep from 6:40 to 6:59 am there will be no HappyWakeUp signal and the standard mobile phone alarm clock is activated at 7:00 am.
