ROM Flashing

DISCLAIMER: I am not responsible of any issues you might have by using my guide. Flashing always includes a risk of bricking your device. Dont come to cry. You've been warned!

-Download ODIN Multidownloader 4.43.
-After it has downloaded, extract it anywhere u want (i suggest desktop, easier)
-RUN ODIN.
-Power off your phone.
-Put your phone into downloading mode. Hold together: Power+Volume Down+Home (phone boots to Downloading mode)
-Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
-Wait for the drivers to install. After that, in ODIN, one of the top line "bars" should turn yellow and some text should appear there.
-Download the AriesVE.ops file and check it as OPS. (credits goes to manveru0)
-Then check the 'one package' from the top left
-The ROM you've downloaded, check it as one package. If it's MD5 file. Then click flash.
-Flashing will take about 9 minutes.
-When you see "Close serial port and wait until rebooting" in odin, you can unplug your phone.
-Enjoy!

-If the flashing doesn't complete. Or you face some other problems, just try another USB port, or computer if possible

Short Howto

WARNING!
You are responsible for your Phone! Blah Blah Blah... I am not responsible for your bricked phones.

To ROOT

1.Put Root-i9001-Signed.zip into internal sdcard
2.Reboot into Recovery mode
3.Use Volume buttons to choose apply update from sdcard in Recovery Menu.
4.Press Home button to submit.
5.Use Volume buttons to choose Root-i9001-Signed.zip on sdcard
6.Press Home button to start update.
7. 2 seconds and Root is installed.
8.Choose reboot system now and press Home button to reboot your phone.

To UNROOT

1.Put UnRoot-i9001-Signed.zip into internal sdcard
2.Reboot into Recovery mode
3.Use Volume buttons to choose apply update from sdcard in Recovery Menu.
4.Press Home button to submit.
5.Use Volume buttons to choose UnRoot-i9001-Signed.zip on sdcard
6.Press Home button to start update.
7. 1 second and Root is gone.
8.Choose reboot system now and press Home button to reboot your phone.

You can enter the Recover Mode this way:

- Switch phone off
- Press Vol+ and Power Button
- as soon as the "SAMSUNG" appears release both buttons
- as soon as the "Android out of the Box" appears, press the Menu button.

Remark: Don't press the Home Button during power on! Otherwise you will enter the RAM Dump mode.

so just follow these steps to get the sdfiles for gameloft game from their server!

The Requirment :

1- IQ of 60 and above ^_^

2-Glzip -----> From Here

The Steps:

1-extract glzip.rar and open the glzip.exe and select ---view links in apk----

2-select the apk file of the game --gameloft games only--

3- copy the right links for ur device into the browser and start downloading ---consolt other member cause i dont know the type of CPUs for every mobile!

Here's how to root Epic 4G Touch:
This is for Windows ONLY, for Mac or Linux rooting, please see this thread!!!
Download rooting files here and unzip:

Put your Epic 4G into download mode by holding down Power button and Volume down buttton, when you see an option screen, let go of both buttons then hit Volume up button.
You should now be in download mode, connect your USB cable from Epic 4G Touch to a Windows computer. (Sorry ODIN uses Windows only...)
Make sure you have Samsung Kies installed, it will install the proper drivers,
Download kies off samsung site here:

Open up odin3 v1.85.exe, click on "PDA", then select "SPH-D710_Zedomax_Kernel.tar" and hit Start.

Your phone should reboot and voila, your phone should be rooted with SuperUser app.

ADB:
The Android Debug Bridge (ADB) allows you to run shell commands, manage the state, port forwarding and copy files to/from an emulator or device.

ROM:
An operating system along with software that is contained on a devices Read-only memory (ROM). A custom ROM can include modified settings to the OS and include root access, modified recovery, theme and collection of applications.

Kernel:
The kernel is a program that constitutes the central core of a computer operating system. It has complete control over everything that occurs in the system.

Theme:
A flashable zip file that changes the appearance of the phone. Often contains a boot animation and/or a boot logo as well.

Flashing:
Process of loading custom software onto the phone.

Recovery Mode:
Used to backup/restore,wipe,apply roms, kernels, themes, and updates. Once you are rooted, for the transform there are 2, ClockworkMod Recovery and Vampirefo Recovery. To get into recovery mode hold down the volume down, voice search, and power keys. Scroll with the volume keys. For CWM recovery, the camera key selects and for Vampirefo's Recovery, the menu soft-key selects.

Download Mode:
Used for flashing .tar files with SWupdater. To get into download mode, hold down the volume down, camera, and power keys.

Boot logo:
The first image displayed when turning on your phone. The stock one says SAMSUNG with a grey loading bar beneath it. Applying one greater than 130 kb in size will most likely brick your phone.

Boot Animation:
The animation that comes after the boot logo. The stock one is in the system/media folder and is called bootani.qmg. The stock boot sound is in the system/etc folder and is called poweron.snd. New ones can be applied by flashing a zip.

Brick:
Dead phone. Cannot reach download mode or recovery mode and cannot power on. Caused by having a wrong tar in Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary, having multiple tars in there, or having an unzipped or otherwise messed up tar in there. Also can be caused by flashing a boot logo above 130 kb. If you have a bricked phone....good luck.

Filesystem Conversion:
Stock is RFS. System, Data, and Cache can all be converted to ext2 or ext4. Preferred setup is usually all on ext4 or system ext2, data and cache ext4. These mostly give faster boot-up times.

I will aim to make it so this exploit can be ported to other devices to help downgrade bootloaders and software. Please read the entire thread before flashing anything and trying this.

Hboot
Hboot uses a hidden partition to check everything it flashes against, this partition is "misc", or hboot -1, or on the shift mmcblk0p17(hboot itself is at mmcblk0p18).
Some raw dumps of this partition using strings to filter ascii strings brings out this type of dump.

Now the place to focus at is the version numbers, 2.76.651.4. Hboot will check all items you try to flash via hboot or ruu utility against this number and if it is lower than what you are trying to flash, it will allow you to proceed in flashing through hboot, or ruu. If the number is higher, it will reject the flash. If the number doesn't exist(like in the eng spl) it will assume it is able to flash it(ONLY TESTED ON ENG SPL, not locked bootloaders). So by dumping the TB's misc partition into our own, we made it so the locked hboot would accept flashes. Either by RUU or hboot.

We believe the package you flash still needs to be signed though so that only leaves you with official ruu's and extracted ruu zips.

same method as used on the evo part 2 thread by toastcfh at xda.
only diff is shift is emmc and evo was mtd. shift emmc partitions are a bit more in number and named differnetly when compared to the evo mtd partitions. on the evo this partition was labeled as "misc" in /proc/partitions. the misc partition being flashed holds the software version number which hboot checks against to verify whether or not it will allow an RUU to be loaded.

How to downgrade your device
For the shift, will be different on other devices with a bit of modding.
1. Temproot(With Fre3vo for the shift) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1185243

2. Move the file misc.img to the root of your sdcard, and PG06IMG.zip too if you plan on flashing through hboot.

3. Modify the misc partition to bypass the version check, type the following in an adb shell or a terminal emulator on your phone.

Note for other devs: misc.img is the image from the TB, could be other images as long as it has a lower version number.

4. This is up to you, you can either use the ruu utility to revert or the PG06IMG.zip in hboot. I'll include links to both. Since both utilities check the misc partition, both are able to flash =)

5. Reboot and then full root like normal on your downgraded device.

Notes
1. When flashing hboot/using this exploit it always flashes twice/stops early and recontinues. Don't worry about it, this is normal(Sometimes it looks like more than 2 but just chill out).

2. Some SDcards are not recognized by hboot, so you will either have to switch cards for this operation or use the ruu utility method.

3. Remove the PG06IMG from your sdcard after flash, or hboot will pick it up next time.

Full root for downgraded 2.2
Flash ENG bootloader

Alternative install can be done if you grab another recovery's recovery.img and do one of the following below.

b. This is for those where fastboot doesn't work or they don't have it - 1. Place recovery.img on the root of your sdcard, then type the command below.

Full root/Rom flashing
Well I know you don't have anything you want to save from the 2.2 ruu since it's just a stock flash, so I am going to leave it off here as flash whatever rom you want over the new system via recovery and you should end up with a fully rooted android.
Just remember to wipe data/factory reset after flash.

How to Theme android phones!

This tutorial is assuming that you have a custom recovery already on your phone

Pick up some tools:
1)Winrar
2)7zip
3)Stock deodex theme template
4)Gimp
5)An already themed theme

Next you will create folders, I have set mine up on my desktop because it is easiest for me so this is how I will explain it throughout the rest of this tutorial.
1)Create a folder on your desktop called ANDROID THEMES.

2)Inside that folder create two folders:
A)TRANSFORM
B)THEMES
NOTE for A) if your wanting to theme more than one phone then you will just create another folder inside of your ANDROID THEMES folder and name it to whatever the phone is. For me I have four folders inside of my ANDROID THEMES folder and they are: EPIC, HERO, MOMENT, TRANSFORM
(NOTE for B) this is where you will put your already themed theme that you picked up on your tools list. You will be using this as a refrence in case you dont know what "png" you need to modify. It always helps to look at somebodys that has theirs done.

3)Inside of the TRANSFORM folder cerate three more folders:
A)ORIGINAL
B)MODIFIED
C)FINAL

4)Place a copy of the STOCK DEODEX THEME TEMPLATE in all of them:
A)ORIGINAL
B)MODIFIED
C)FINAL
ORIGINAL this is your "master" copy so you will never mess with this!!! This is put in place so just in case you screw up and something goes wrong/which it will just count on it then you have a backup.

MODIFIED this is where you will be doing most of your work throughout this tutorial.

FINAL this is where the finished product will be when done.

5)Inside of the "MODIFIED" folder right click and choose "extract here" from your WINRAR options note WINRAR icons look like three books bound together.

6)Once extracted there will be 3 files:
A)META-INF
B)system
c)de-odex
7)Create a 4th file and name it "FRAMEWORK". NOTE this is in all caps because there is another "framework" file inside of the "system" folder which is all lower case. You do this so you don't get confused.

8)Now double click the "system" folder and inside it are 2 folders:
A)app
B)framework

9)Double click the "framework" folder and inside it are a bunch of java files. Look for the file named "framework-res" NOTE it should have a 7ZIP icon next to it if you have downloaded 7ZIP like instructed.

10)Select "framework-res" and right click, choose "copy".

11)Back out and go to your "FRAMEWORK" folder you created and "paste" your copied file in there.

12)Highlight "framework-res" and right click, scroll down to 7ZIP. There will be a list of options. Choose "Extract Here". Once extracted there will be 3 files:
A)assets
B)META-INF
C)res

13)Double click "res". Inside there is a bunch of folders, so for this tutorial we are going to change the color of the "STATUS BAR".

14)Double click "drawable-mdpi". Inside there there is a bunch of "png" files. NOTE These are the graphics that you see on your phone. Scroll down almost to the bottom and there will be a "png" called "statusbar_background.9"

15)Open up "Gimp". Then drag the "statusbar_background.9" png over to "Gimp".

16)On the "Toolbox" bar select the "paintbursh" then double click on your color pallet that is in the middle.The "Change foreground" dialog box will pop-up. Pick your color then click "OK". Paint the "png". Once done click "File" on the "GIMP" toolbar then select "Save". ***NOTE*** You will notice that the "png" will be saved to your new color. Close out "GIMP".

17)Inside your "FRAMWORK" folder double click the 7ZIP "framework-res" file. A 7ZIP window will pop-up. Highlight "res" right click choose "Delete".

18)Then go back to your "FRAMEWORK" folder and drag the "res" folder over to the 7ZIP pop-up window. Then close it out.

19)Now copy the 7ZIP "framework_res" file.

NOTE If you want to check to make sure that the modified "statusbar_background.9" png is in there then just double click on the 7ZIP "framework-res" file in the "FRAMEWORK" folder, then select "res" then "drawable-mdpi" then find "statusbar_background.9". Double click on it, "GIMP" will open up with your modified png.

19)Now go to the "FINAL" folder you created and open it up and double click on the "STOCK DEODEX THEME TEMPLATE"

20)"WINRAR" will open up there will be 2 files:
A)META-INF
B)system
Double click "system", then double click "framework". Inside there is a bunch of "JAVA" files. Scroll down to "framework-res.apk" and delete it. Then paste in the one that you just copied.

21)Close out "WINRAR" and right click and rename it to what ever you want.

22)Your finished now transfer it to your phone and flash it through recovery.

HOWTO CMD Logcat and DDMS

Requirements:
Android SDK
USB Drivers Installed

For those who want to use CMD:
1) Make sure your phone is Plugged in and Debugging is enabled.
2) Open up CMD.
3) Cd to your Android SDK directory. e.g. c:/users/dylan/ cd android sdk
4) Cd to platform-tools, then type adb devices. A list of devices should pop up, including your phone's serial number.
5) Type "adb logcat > logcat.txt"(without quotation marks). *Nothing should appear, but your cursor will just blink. That means it is running.
will save to your /Android SDK/platform-tools/ folder

If you want it to output in CMD though, type "adb logcat"(without quotation marks) instead.

For those who want to use DDMS:
1) Follow steps 1, 2, and 3 above.
2) Cd to /tools of your /Android SDK Directory.
3) Type "ddms" without quotation marks.
4) A dialog should pop up after a while. In the list, there should be your phone.
5) Making sure your phone is selected, Go to Device > Run Logcat. It will output the logput in another window. If you are done, hit Cancel, then Save.
